Robert Scotto will read his new work from his travels in India and Nepal with Photographer Lu Wu from the just published pillow book, Journey Thru Nepal and India,. Nirala, 2012 New Delhi. Yuyutsu Sharma will read from his new book Milarepa’s Bones, (also published by Nirala, 2012) , and from poetry/picture book, Nepal Trilogy (www.nepal-trilogie.de, Epsilonmedia, Germany), authored with German photographer, Andreas Stimm, launched previously at Frankfurt Book Fair, Paris and in Kathmandu at Nepal Tourism board by German Ambassador to Nepal. Lu Wu will project a selection of her photographs from the journey during the reading and Yuyutsu will read poems on German photographer Stimm’s panoramic b/w photos and discuss the relationship between poetry and photography and his decade long work on the Trilogy with the photographer. BIOGRAPHIES:
Robert Scotto was a professor of English at Baruch College, CUNY, until his recent retirement. His previous publications include a Critical Edition of Catch-22, a book on the contemporary American novel and essays on Walter Pater, James Joyce and other major nineteenth and twentieth century writers. The first edition of Moondog won the 2008 ARSC Award for Best Research in Recorded Classical Music and the Independent Publisher Book Awards 2008 bronze medal for biography. Pinnacles: Journey through India and Nepal is his first collection of poems. Lu Wu is a retired tax accountant who is finally doing what she has wanted to do all her life: draw, paint, write Chinese calligraphy and develop her skills as a photographer. Several of the photographs in Robert Scotto’s Moondog will be credited to her in the second edition. This is her first venture in publishing. Yuyutsu RD SharmaRecipient of fellowships and grants from The Rockefeller Foundation, Ireland Literature Exchange, Trubar Foundation, Slovenia, The Institute for the Translation of Hebrew Literature and The Foundation for the Production and Translation of Dutch Literature, Yuyutsu RD Sharma is a distinguished poet and translator. He has published nine poetry collections including, Milarpa’s Bones, 33 New Poems, (Nirala, New Delhi 2012), Nepal Trilogy, Photographs and Poetry on Annapurna, Everest, Helambu & Langtang (www.Nepal-Trilogy.de, Epsilonmedia, Karlsruhe, 2010), a 900-page book with German photographer, Andreas Stimm, Space Cake, Amsterdam, & Other Poems from Europe and America, (Howling Dog Press, Colorado, 2009), and recently a translation of Hebrew poet Ronny Someck’s poetry in Nepali in a bilingual collection, Baghdad, February 1991 & Other Poems. He has translated and edited several anthologies of contemporary Nepali poetry in English and launched a literary movement, Kathya Kayakalpa (Content Metamorphosis) in Nepali poetry. Two books of his poetry, Poemes de l’ Himalayas (L’Harmattan, Paris) and Poemas de Los Himalayas (Cosmopoeticia, Cordoba, Spain) just appeared in French and Spanish respectively. Widely traveled author, he has read his works at several prestigious places including Poetry Café, London, Seamus Heaney Center for Poetry, Belfast, New York University, New York, Western Writers' Center, Galway, Bowery Poetry Place, New York, The Kring, Amsterdam, P.E.N. His works have appeared in Poetry Review, Chanrdrabhaga, Sodobnost, Amsterdam Weekly, Indian Literature, Irish Pages, Delo, Omega, Howling Dog Press, Exiled Ink, Iton77, Little Magazine, The Telegraph, Indian Express and Asiaweek. Born at Nakodar, Punjab and educated at Baring Union Christian College, Batala and later at Rajasthan University, Jaipur, Yuyutsu remained active in the literary circles of Rajasthan and acted in plays by Shakespeare, Bertolt Brecht, Harold Pinter, and Edward Albee. Later he taught at various campuses of Punjab University, and Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu. The Library of Congress has nominated his recent book of Nepali translations entitled Roaring Recitals; Five Nepali Poets as Best Book of the Year 2001 from Asia under the Program, A World of Books International Perspectives. Yuyutsu’s own work has been translated into German, French, Italian, Slovenian, Hebrew, Spanish and Dutch. He just published his nonfiction, Annapurnas & Stains of Blood: Life, Travel and Writing a Page of Snow, (Nirala, 2010) and completed his first novel. Currently, he edits Pratik, A Magazine of Contemporary Writing and contributes literary columns to Nepal’s leading daily, The Himalayan Times. Half the year, he travels and reads all over the world to read from his works and conducts creative writing workshop at various universities in the United States and Europe but goes trekking in the Himalayas when back home. Andreas Stimm
Distinguished German photographer, Andreas Stimm, born in 1970, studied geology at Karlsruhe University, and acquired a certificate of media design. Since then he has been engaged in the art of black and white analog photography. . His first bilingual book of pictures with panoramic photography taken with a Hasselblad camera was published in 2005. The book bagged the award “Auswahltitel deutscher Photobuchpreis 2005”. In 2006, he published www.WayToEverest.de” , “a photographic poetic journey to the foot of Everest” And in 2010 Andreas brought out the latest:“Nepal-Trilogy, Annapurna, Everest, Helambu & Langtang” which has been presented at Frankfurt, Paris, London and New York.
